ABOUT ME

Dr. Philipp Schildt

Aerospace engineer with experience in development, integration and testing.

DIPL.-ING. · PHD

Technical depth.
Practical responsibility.

Twenty years of relevant professional experience in research and development underpin my work. The focus is on complex systems: how they interact, where disciplines meet and how to demonstrate that a design works under its intended operating conditions.

Experience with new propulsion technologies, uncrewed aircraft and flight testing is grounded in hands-on work at test rigs and on aircraft. Flying, skippering and amateur radio also bring an operator’s perspective to usability and maintainability.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Experience in aerospace development.

Development and project roles at companies including Siemens and Rolls-Royce form part of my professional background. The work has focused on new propulsion technologies, system integration and collaboration across disciplines. Since 2020, my own engineering office has provided development support, consultancy and technical training to external clients.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Technical expertise.
Operational understanding.

Qualifications and experience relevant to development, airworthiness, operation and training.

Development & airworthiness

Experience as a Design Engineer (DE) and Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE) within EASA-approved design organisations (EASA.21J.638 and EASA.21J.405), complemented by work in production organisation (PO) and continuing airworthiness management organisation (CAMO) environments.

Pilot licences & flight testing

PPL(A) and SPL licences complement practical flight test experience spanning planning, approval processes, conduct and evaluation.

Electrical engineering & high voltage

Qualification as an electrical specialist (Elektrofachkraft), together with practical experience in high-voltage systems and live working, supports my electrical engineering consultancy and application-specific training.

Nautical experience

More than 25 years as a skipper on inland waterways and at sea bring a practical understanding of what onboard technology needs to deliver. My qualifications also include authorisation to skipper vessels commercially.

Project management

Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) by the Project Management Institute (PMI) combines with technical responsibility for development, integration and testing.

Training & knowledge transfer

A train-the-trainer course in instructional methods and teaching roles at Euro Flight Test and, as a volunteer, THW complement my engineering work. Training is built around specific tasks, existing knowledge and practical requirements.

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS

Dipl.-Ing. · PhD

After graduating from RWTH Aachen University with a Dipl.-Ing. in Mechanical Engineering, specialising in Aerospace Engineering, I completed a PhD at RMIT University in cooperation with FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences. The doctoral research addressed condition monitoring and remaining useful life estimation for hybrid-electric aircraft propulsion systems.

This research adds depth in reliability assessment, physical modelling and measurement-data analysis. Its value in an engineering project is practical: sound evidence about a system’s condition, behaviour and limitations.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Part of the flight test community.

Professional exchange and focused training complement practical flight test work.

SFTE Member

Member of the Society of Flight Test Engineers.

NTPS · Short Course

Short course at the National Test Pilot School in fixed-wing performance and handling-qualities flight testing, attended in 2017.

VOLUNTEERING

Technical expertise
in humanitarian response.

Alongside my engineering work, volunteering with THW — the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief — includes teaching and service as a specially trained expert for international deployment, with roles in High Capacity Pumping (HCP) and the Standing Engineering Capacity (SEC).

HCP provides high-capacity pumping and water transfer for disaster response. SEC provides technical and logistical support for international relief operations, including camp infrastructure. These functions place engineering in the context of practical needs and coordinated teamwork.

MY NETWORK

The right expertise
for the whole task.

An established professional network extends the expertise and facilities available for your project. Where additional specialists or test facilities are needed, suitable contacts can be identified and their contributions coordinated with the engineering task.

Scope, responsibilities and availability are agreed with you at the outset.

Discuss your project with me.

Tell me about your system, the technical question and your timeframe.

schildt.aero
